The Fondazione G.Re.T.A. ETS is a new organization founded in December 2021 by Maurizio Nava, and his fellows Giuseppe Catanuto and Nicola Rocco
G.Re.T.A. was conceived to support research and education initiatives in the field of oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery of the breast, and comes from a lifelong commitment of the three founders.
The development of a personalized approach to surgical treatment of breast cancer is the main goal of the Foundation. This can be accomplished either organizing in presence and on-line courses with world renowned specialists or providing scientific support to the international series of conferences called “MBN”. Thanks to the generosity of its donors G.Re.T.A. providing fundings to an International Fellowship in memory of Mr Guidubaldo Querci della Rovere, who served as consultant surgeon at the Royal Marsden Hospital during the nineties and sadly died after having pioneered oncoplastic surgery. This project runs in partnership with two British institutions (the Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and the Royal Marsden Hospital in London) and in the last ten years has offered two grants for senior surgical trainees to let them attend the two leading surgical units in Italy and in Europe.
Fondazione G.Re.T.A. ETS is also co-founder of BRESO the new initiative for breast surgeons certification and training together with the most important scientific society dealing with breast cancer including also ESSO (European Society of Surgical Oncology); EUSOMA (European Society of Mastology); ESO (European School of Oncology); UEMS- Division of Breast Surgery (European Union of medical specialists); EU-BREAST; CEEBCSC (Central Eastern European Breast Cancer Surgical Consortium).
G.Re.T.A is also involved in research focusing mainly on innovative topics, such as scaffolds for breast reconstruction, artificial intelligence, natural language processing and evaluation of decisional features, formal analysis of breast shape, but also systematic reviews produce with high quality methodology and production of recommendations for evidence based surgical management. Personalization of care and active involvement of patients in the decision making process is another pillar of the G.Re.T.A. strategy with studies on de-escalation of oncoplastic complexity, creation of validated decision aids, and investigation of the impact of scars on survivorship. A glimpse in the future is the new partnership with the ISW (IN-SILICO WORLD) European Commission Funded Project as advisory board member, that will allow innovative studies on simulation of the immune response against implants in implant based breast reconstruction and piloting predictive models of response of triple negative breast cancer to immunotherapy.
The scientific and education activities are coordinated by the scientific committee that gathers specialists from all over the world together with young promising specialists. The board of directors of G.Re.T.A. involves the three founders who are world renowned surgeons actively involved in International scientific bodies.
